The Chevy Caprice and Caprice Classic was Chevrolet’s full-size luxury model from 1965 til 1996 and as such carried a matching price tag. Through 1976 it was a bigger car but in 1977 the Caprice and it’s cousins were considerably smaller at over 600 lbs lighter. The Donk phenomonon has made wide use of the Caprice from this era.

It was also used widely as a police car and that package carried the designation 9c1. When married to the LT1 engine and Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission it made for a high-performance, durable police unit capable of very high speeds. The Caprice 9c1 was so popular in fact, that an entire community still exists of enthusiasts and law enforcement departments who rebuild retired models for continued service. Caprice fans have been very interested in the news from General Motors that a 2011 Caprice/Impala will be made as a PPV (police pursuit vehicle) based on the Holden Statesman.
